The city of Hollywood Fire Rescue and Beach Safety recently unveiled its newest lifesaving extrication equipment, which is made possible from a $36,175 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Proceeds from purchases made at U.S. Firehouse Subs restaurants provided the funding for the grant.

The tools — a HURST Cutter, Spreader, Ram and accessories — will assist first responders by dramatically reducing the time it takes them to safely extricate victims involved in motor vehicle accidents above ground and underwater. The equipment will also give the department the capability to respond to complex incidents involving heavy trucks, as well as cut and spread ultra-hardened steels found in newer vehicles.

“On behalf of the city of Hollywood and all of our firefighters, we thank the foundation for this grant award,” City of Hollywood Fire Rescue Division Chief James Russo said in a statement. “These new tools feature technology developments that utilize eDraulics, which means they’re battery operated as opposed to needing hydraulic oil. That makes it a lot safer, more portable and quieter for our firefighters to use these tools.”

To date, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated over $639,000 to first responder organizations in greater Miami-Fort Lauderdale and $10.5 million across Florida.

“Giving back to our local community is at the heart of everything we do,” Firehouse Subs Dania Pointe franchisee Ulises Lacentre said in a statement. “We are grateful to our local Firehouse Subs guests who make these grants possible, and, of course, to our first responder heroes for everything they do to keep us safe each day.”
